About Us Bobby (whose nickname since high school is Rube) & Robin (Carson) Harne, the owners of Rube's Crab Shack in Thurmont, Maryland, believe Crabs are more than a summertime backyard treat. Hardshell Crabs have been a part of their lives since they met 37 years ago. Bobby and Robin met as teenagers working at Robin's father's business, The Blue Mountain Inn Crab House, in Thurmont. Robin is the daughter of Bob Carson, who was well-known for his delicious crabs at the Blue Mountain Inn. All-You-Can-Eat crab specials at the Inn were $12.50 per person in 1972! Robin worked in the dining room serving up trays of the crustaceans while Bobby (Rube) steamed them in the crab room. The restaurant is long gone, but the family crab cooking secrets live on! The Carry-Out Only Shop came to being after friends and neighbors continually asked them to steam crabs for their backyard feasts. We are very particular in buying our Crabs. We look for the heaviest — although around Full Moon, crabs shed and you can't help getting a few light ones. And we let our customers know when it's around that time, and that there might be a few light ones! It's all about "Mother Nature".... We do not pre-cook our Crabs, every order is steamed fresh!
